Listen to HUSHPUPPY’s new song “Nervous,” Zoë Brecher’s New Single and Contribution to the Hardly Art Singles Series

HUSHPUPPY is the solo passion project of Zoë Brecher, a NYC-based musician. She is best known for her work as a drummer and has played with Palehound, Sad13, Oberhofer, Kalbells, Sammus, Bachelor, SASAMI, King Tuff and Oceanator, among others, and most recently with Benson Boone from American Idol.

As a biracial gay woman, Brecher has always used songwriting as an outlet to help navigate the world around her and process her experiences and emotions. HUSHPUPPY contributed a new digital track to Hardly Art’s 15th Anniversary Digital Singles Series, entitled “Nervous”, out today on all DSPs. Brecher shares of the song:

As someone who suffers from anxiety and depression, I often struggle to leave the house. This song is about acknowledging I’m not the only one who feels that way. Although it’s a tough subject, it’s a hopeful song. It starts with me singing alone, feeling small, then shifts to a virtual ensemble of people singing with me who feel the same. We are stronger together, and by the end there’s a sense of hope and clarity -- yet slight unease -- that by working with each other we can help one another. There’s power in knowing I’m not alone and I hope you can feel that in the song.

ABOUT HUSHPUPPY:
For HUSHPUPPY, Brecher writes and records all of the music herself from her apartment in Manhattan. Although she has been drumming since she was 10, she began writing songs when she was even younger. In 2016, she began posting short pop songs centered on gay love and relationships under the name HUSHPUPPY to her Bandcamp page and has been releasing music under that name since. Brecher says, “With my music, I want to make people feel good, and I want them to know they are not alone when they don’t.”
